You probably remember that angels came from Heaven to tell the shepherds that Jesus had just been born in Bethlehem. The shepherds even heard thousands of angels singing in the sky because Jesus had come to Earth.

Angels also appeared to Jacob in the desert, and during a terrible storm, an angel appeared to the apostle Paul to tell them everything would be OK.

God sends angels to serve us and help us when we need it most. They don’t always have wings or bright lights, but God sends them to help in one way or another…to help us, the ones who love Him with all our hearts and who stay faithful to Him.

God created the angels long before he created the Earth, before the stars, before the whole universe.  In the Bible, we read, Therefore, angels are only servants–spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.” – Hebrews 1:14

But there was a war in heaven between the angels faithful to God and those who, with Satan (the devil), rebelled against God. Satan and his angels lost. Nothing and no-one is stronger than God. He is All-Powerful!

In God’s Word (the Bible), we can read about the times when God sent angels to help those who loved Him.

One day, an angel appeared to a woman to tell her that she would have a child at long last.  Manoach, her husband, wanted to meet the man sent by God (who was really an angel).  When the angel came back the second time, the woman ran to get her husband. Manoach asked the angel, “When will this child be born?  What do we have to do for him?” The angel answered all his questions at Manoach asked him one last one, “What’s your name?” The angel replied, “My name is too wonderful for you to understand.” Manoach and his wife prepared a meal as an offering to the Lord and something extraordinary happened:  as the flames from the altar shot up into the sky, they saw the angel of the Lord go up with the fire and disappear. (Judges 13:20).

Manoah’s wife gave birth to a son and named him ‘Samson’. The boy grew and God blessed him.

Some time later, the prophet Elisha and his servant were in the town of Dothan. Very early one morning, the servant saw a huge army surrounding the town.  It was Israel’s enemy; the servant was terrified and asked Elisha, “What are we going to do?” Elisha calmly replied, “Don’t be afraid!  There are more on our side than on theirs! Can’t you see them?” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see what I can see!” The Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw the hillside filled with angels ready to fight for them both. The enemy army was defeated.  God had sent his angels!

Fairies, forces, genies, spirits that you find in stories and comics are not the same thing as God’s angels….
