bible1 To the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day.          2 Peter 3:8

NEWS- – January, February, March 2019

Do you know where the months of the year and the days of the week gie their names?
Here’s a little bit of history….
Our original calendar – said to have been created by Romulus, one of the founders of Romehad only 10 months. The first month was March and was named after the Roman god Mars, the god of war and the father of Romulus and Remus. March saw the return of beautiful weather… And the return to war after the winter!
When Numa Pompilus, who took over from Romulus, added January and February to the calendar, he named the first month after the Roman god Janus who, with his two faces, one facing forwards and one facing backwards, symbolised moving from one year to the next. As for February, it was the month of purification, probably because it was a very rainy part of the year in Italy.

January
During the first few days of January, the Romans honoured the god Janus, sent good wishes to one another, gave one another gifts and had great feasts.
It’s great to wish a good and happy year to the members of our family, to our neighbours, to friends, and to other Christians in our church community.
The AME calendars for 2019 have arrived in several countries. Praise the Lord!
In the Bible,in Jeremiah 29:11, you can read what the Lord declares: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
In the first two weeks of the year, Alain will be with Loïc in Burkina Faso, which means upright fatherland. They will meet with children to tell them about the plans that God has for each one of them.

February
The month of February was the month of purification in ancient Rome. It was a very rainy time of the year in Italy, and a time when the days started to get longer.
Let’s read again what God says in His Word, in Matthew 5:8, God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
It is Jesus who said these words, and it is thanks to His blood that flowed on the cross that we can become pure, righteous and have all our sins washed away.
In some European countries, the 2nd of February is the feast of Candlemas, which comes from the Latin festa candelarum (feast of candles). We remember that Jesus is the light of the world.
And we toss pancakes in the frying pan as a reminder of the shape and colour of the sun.

March
The month named after Mars, the Roman god of war. It coincided with the return of good weather but also a return to war after the winter,
In countries where there is war, children don’t play war games. Many of them run away when they hear gunshots or see the long swords.
After Jesus wax resurrected from the dead, He appeared to His disciples and said, “Peace be with you.”.
Only Jesus brings true peace. It is this peace that the Maison Refuge at Bangui in the Central African Republic offers to the children there. Let’s continue to support them.
