The First 3 months of 2018

We are in 2018But not everyone is….

It was a monk from Asia – Dionysius Exiguus (Latin for “Dionysius the Humble”) – who decided to count the years before and after the birth of Jesus.

Jesus is indeed the point of reference for many of us!

In Europe, and in many other countries on other continents, we are in the year 2018.

In Israel, it is the year 5778In many Arab countries, it is the year 1439 and in India, 1938.

Did you know that the first three months of the year come from Latin?  January is from janus and March from marstwo Roman gods; and February is from februarius meaning to purify yourself.

Each month has several weeks.  Do you know the name of the first day of the week?  Sunday or MondayFor Christians, it’s Sunday.  The French word for Sunday – dimanche – comes from the Latin Dominicus Dies, which means Day of the Lord.  In other languages, dimanche is Sonntag (German) or Sunday (English), both of which mean the day of the sun.

In the Bible, in John, chapter 20, you can read:  Early in the morning on the first day of the ….., while it was still ….., Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the ….. was ….. away from the …..

* (Put the following words in the correct place:  dark, moved, week, stone, entrance.)

It was the day on which Jesus was resurrected (came back to life), the day after the Jewish Shabbat, which is our Saturday.

–> During these first three months of 2018, we are meeting with a French church to help them to better communicate the Word of God to children.

We will also meet people in their own homes – both children and adults – to help them to get to know the Lord in a deeper way.

We are also preparing for missionary trips to a few African countries to meet children and to support the teams who work there.
